Hello, Thanks for stoping by.
I recently purchased my first boat (1977 Johnson 115HP). Today I took it for its first trip on the water. I was very pleased with how the boat performed, but being new to boats I was wondering what to expect from this engine in terms of speed.

I do not have the TAC working yet
I did not have GPS but the MPH gauge would show about 42MPH when plaining with trim at full throttle.

I am just wondering if that is about right, or should I expect more from this engine (indicating I need to do some more tuning?)

The engine: 115EL775
Boat: 1077 Ranger Fish and Play - 17 ft (tri hull I think - still a newbie)

Thanks.

42 mph out of a tri hull with a 115 sounds about right to me. If you have a trim feature can probably get a bit more out of it. Does it plane quickly?

Thanks for the comments guys. It doesnt plain real quick, but within the first 30 sec or so. I just wanted to make sure I was in the ball park. Thanks

if you have trim and tilt, tuck in completely getting out of the hole, and then trim out, as it goes on plane.
