Would 1985 sound about right.

Hi, My service manual says that the first half of the ID #'s indicates the model, transom height and model year and the latter half represents the unit, production number.

My ID # is FT9.9ELG 6G8 L 464063 which is electric start, long shaft and 1988 model year.
So you may have a 1989 model year.
Have you tried calling a dealer with those numbers?
I bet they will know for sure.
