Hello,

I like your forums and appreciate the replies in my other posts. I just went from a long-time inland lake skier/boater living on the lake to the Gulf coast of Florida. I bought a used Baja "somewhat performance" (that's what the insurance co called it when justifying an outrageous quote) cuddy that will be trailered.

Anyone want to share your must-haves to bring along for a day or two out boating. I'll start:

- 1 or 2 gal extra water
- spare sunblock and bugspray ('spare' stuff is stashed away and left there)
- spare food like granola/power bars
- baby wipes for clean up
- a few trashbags
- 5/8" socket/rachet for removal of power trim rams for trailering if it dies in the down position
- vise grips
- wd-40
- multi tool
- 2 screwdrivers
- some good tape
- some zip ties
- hose clamps
- fuses
- a couple of cheap stainless fixed blade knives
- basic first aid kit
- basic nav tools: binocs, handheld gps, handheld vhf, paper chart

Do you have any to add? Something that most people wouldn't have thought of?

Thanks.

Electrical tape and duct tape to repair a broken hose if needed.

You've got the GPS and VHF covered...
Cell phone
Volt/Ohm meter
Spare fuel filters or bypass

You don't need much else if you've got:
Boat/US Unlimited Towing

What do you consider offshore for a couple of days?

If you’re truly going offshore you'll need:

1. Spare power pack
2. Spare prop
3. Plugs
4. Primer bulb
5. Fuel filter
6. Filter wrench
7. An assortment of wooden dowels to plug a breach in the hull, (i.e. failed thru hull fitting)
8. At least 1 gallon of water per person, per day.
9. A basic first aid isn't going to cut it. No 911 service out there. Someones life may depend on that kit.
10. Redundant Electronics certainly would certainly be high on the list
11. EPIRB
12. Spare vro/fuel pump

Good luck

fuses, a blown fuse, can ruin the whole trip. especially the 20 amp in the outboard starter circuit.

Even with the sun screen, someone's gonna' get cooked. Ibuprofen not only helps the pain, but if taken every eight hours, it helps mitigate the inflamitory response as well. Wear a hat and stay in the shade of the T-top. Be sure to put sunscreen on the top of your ears, your hands, and your feet.

If you've never done this before, please know that someone is going to get seasick. Dramamine works better at preventing it than getting rid of it. Be careful, however... Just like diphenhydromine (Benedryl) it will just help the nausea and sunburn for one person and knock the next one on his butt. Hard to fish or think clearly when you're asleep on the deck getting even more sunburned!

Stay hydrated! Let me say that again..... Stay hydrated! I fish offshore in Florida and I can't emphasize this too much. The sun and the wind sucks it out of you. If you ain't peeing, you're ain't drinking enough! You can't take too much water and ice. DO NOT eat fish that hasn't been properly iced for the whole trip. Been there...... Z

I would get an EPIRB and make sure your safety / Survival raft is within it's recommended date. Also, program the Coast Guard's 1-800 number into your cell phone. You'd be surprised to know that cell service sometimes reaches as far as 100 miles off shore in today's world.

A spare GPS and more extra batteries for it that you think you'd use in a month!
