Prop Chip

I have a Mercruiser inboard/outboard 5.0L 260HP. Recently I chipped the most extreme edges of the aluminum 3 bladed prop on what was probably a submerged, raised oyster bed my depth gauge didn't pick up on. It is highly necessary to change the prop now? even if I am running an inboard? or if the damage is very minor on the edges?

Thanks

Re: Prop Chip

All depends on how badly the prop is chipped. If it has one blade chipped worse than the others it could creat an unbalanced condition and put additional wear on your lower unit. At the very least a chipped prop consumes more fuel to get the boat from point A to point B. Aluminum props are cheap and you should replace it. Once you have a new one send this one to a repair shop to fix so you'll have a spare or just keep it as an emergency spare and use as is.
