Recommendations for floor removal in a 1967 Starcraft?

Any tips would be great to help with the old floor removal. Those wide strips on the side that run from the gunwales to the floor are screwed to the floor, but how else are they attached? I see screws on the top but when they're removed the sides still won't come out. Also it appears the old owners riveted the floor to the aluminum stringers. What's the best way to deal with them without damaging the stringers?

The floors were usually riveted to the stringers as new. Drill the heads off them. All fasteners are visible from the top, so remove everything you can see to get the floor out.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll probably help in the end. I had put it in the other froum mainly beacuse there were a couple of guys that had my same model boat, that's all.

Ayuh,........
But,....
Once you've been Inside a Starcraft Tinboat,......
You just know what to expect.....
They've been pretty much the Same Hull since the 60s......
And still haven't changed much......

Those wide strips on the side that run from the gunwales to the floor are screwed to the floor, but how else are they attached? I see screws on the top but when they're removed the sides still won't come out.

About midway up, where the shelf meets the Inside of the panel, there's a Trim Strip on the outside,.....
It's hiding another row of Rivets............

Good Luck........

Ahuyp.

And when you go put it all back together it's better to replace those rivets with #10 panhead screws, nylock nuts and trim rings. Feature the fasteners they look nice when done right.

So I just drill out the rivets then? What size bit do you recommend?

"What size bit do you recommend?"

You'll have to experiment but I would start with 1/4".

Actually,......
You should use a drill that matches the shank of the Rivet,..... That's 3/16" in your case......

I tried a couple yesterday and it worked great! After this weekend when I finally put her in the water for the first time to check my water pump install, I'll be able to start taking the floor out. The girlfriend will be sooo happy.
