I've got a prop driven 25 hp Evinrude that has stopped squirting water out of the water pump. I suspect that it needs a new impeller and that getting toit should be easy... just take the foot off and there it is.... right?
The foot slides down a bit then hangs... I can't get it to slide off.
Can anyone tell me whats holding it or if I'm on the right track in general. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks everyone
Thats exactly what is wrong. Bolt the lu back up, to take off the weight, unhook the shift rod, then it should slide off. I always llike to remove the prop before lowering as well, as well as disconnecting the battery. Do you have a manual?
And only turn the top nut, hold the bottom nut in place. There is a little black plastic piece on the top part (under the top nut) that is an expander to hold it all together..be careful getting that off or you will have to get a new one..it is split and probably won't look like it...but it is...pry it open and slip it down and off. Thenn the top nut sould slide down and off and you can remove the lower. Get a manual.
Thanks everyone. I think I got lucky. While I was waiting for your advice I decided to double check and see if that hose could be stopped up. It was! Don't know with what, but I could not blow through it and I straighteded out a paper clip and cleared out something that was blocking it. I haven't got it started yet to verify, the starter spins but won't pop up and engage.
Those pesky spiders love building nests in there! Take the hose right off and ensure that it is pumping. Check your battery, and make sure that it is charged up to 12.65 volts.
