Default 95 Evinrude 200 stalling at idle after running

had a number of issues with my boat which I've fixed... but one problem i can't quite seem to pin down.

I suspect i may have a carb problem or fuel pump problem...

1. On occasion, I'll be running the boat and after 15 mins or so the RPMs suddenly drop by a thousand or more. Giving more throttle will raise the R's, but not necessarily to wear they should be. This sometimes only lasts a few moments then the engine resumes normal operation.

2. The other problem, which is maybe related, happens after running the boat for awhile. The boat will run fine all day, then when idling, the motor will stall--repeatedly. The primer ball is often times soft when the stalling occurs. Pumping the ball sometimes helps the temporarily. But I can't figure out why I'm losing pressure. I've checked for leaks, can't find any. Can't find any cracks in the lines. Changed the primer ball, etc.

If fuel pump, is it hard to replace? It is a VRO pump and the guy who sold me the boat actually had a new on in a box he gave me. Guess I should have realized it at the time.

Again, apart from issue 1, the motor runs great, but just stalls in idle after having been run for some time... Please help...

--on an annoying side note, i just had the neutral safety replaced when I was getting some other serve completed. first launch and throttle up caused the throttle cable trunion (?) to break after shift lever. mechanic says freak accident. hmmm... thought the throttle shifter was very tight when I first shifted it before it broke. is there something the mechanic could have done that would make the shifting very right, then have the trunion thingy break?

It is quite normal for the primer bulb to be soft after the engine gets running.

I suspect that your problem will go away after a thorough soaking, cleaning and installation of new carb kits. Make sure you use high pressure air in the cleaning - not the rattle can stuff.

What's a trunion thingy?? No I'm not trying to be a smart ***.

An item you may need to check out, along with other things, would be the shift interupt switch on the engine. This is designed to momentarily cut out cylinders when shifting. Only thought of this cause the problem only happens an idle. This item is located on my engine just under the shift cables on the engine.

sorry for not using the right terminology. they changed the neutral safety switch. and... it's stalling in gear at idle or slow speeds. really annoying thing the other day was that every time i would start up (after already having run for some time) it would quickly stall as soon as I put any type of load on the motor. also, i couldn't get the ball to get hard. very frustrating. had mechanic look at carbs he said there was no issue. checked fuel line into the tank, no issue. Crap!

If pumping the primer bulb picks it up, it could be a number of things such as carb floats improperly set or defective, failing fuel pump air motor diaphragm ,leaky or dislodged pulse hose between crankcase and fuel pump, etc... As far as stalling when put in gear, when were the carbs last rebuilt? May be time for a bath and rebuild. Check to see if the timer base (starboard side, under the edge of the flywheel, linked to the throttle lever) moves smoothly without sticking when you advance the throttle.

Take the airbox cover off & observe whether the throttle plates are parallel.

Also, the timer base should start it's travel *before* the throttle plates start to open, else she'll fall flat when you try to accelerate.

Both problems seem to lead back to the carbs as stated above, along with their set up. This is where your manual will help. GOod luck.
