Gord, the website I'm familiar with that has merc dating is oldmercs.com, but they only go to 1975-76 and show the 45 (4.5 hp) for those years having s/n 4107220 thru 4597262, therefore my guess is that it is newer than that?
Does that sound right? If so, it's definitely 50:1
That said, if you're not at all sure of the date, but confident it's newer than the early to mid-60s, it will still be a fuel mixture of 50:1.
The oil to use is any oil rated TCW3 which is for outboards. Do not use the 2 stroke oil that is made for weedwackers, chain saws, etc.
if you think it's older than mid-60s, i'm not sure.
