I have a chance to buy a 2005 Yamaha 115 4 stroke. Any opinions on this engine would be appreciated? Any known problems? Worth the money? Thanks in advance.
I have a 2006 F90, which if you look at the specs, is a very similar engine. It has been a solid performer - smooth, quiet and strong. The only problem I've had with it was when some water got into the fuel tank and made it all the way to the engine. A good cleaning (and relocation of my fuel tank vents) solved the problem. I have really enjoyed the smooth and quiet performance of this engine, but yeah, it is a bit heavy. - Woodnaut
I've got an 02 model and love it. I had some problems with making oil early on and with a dirty injector later from not having a separate filter but both were easily fixed and I haven't had any other problems with it. This motor is as reliable as it gets. I've fished when the temps were down below 20 degrees and it fires up on the first turn. Great gas mileage, I can run out 7 or 8 miles on Erie and back a couple times a week and only use $25 in fuel. I was a little worried since it was kinda small for my boat(19' alumacraft trophy rated for a 175) but it pushes it along at almost 40 gps with 2 guys and loaded for fishing. The F150 would probably be a little better suited for my boat but I'm not out to win any races, I'd buy another F115 in a heartbeat.
and whats funny is all the replys about engine problems have not been yamaha related but strictly related to hull and maint issues
the F115 is usually a solid motor, occasionally we have one with a yamaha issue but its rare.
