Hello can anyone help have 75hp 4cyl mariner approx 86 . The engine was rebuilt new rings and bearings new coils and control box .runs and revs perfectly out of water. When in water engine only produces half revs and stalls when shifted into gear ,I have spent lots of money on mechanics who meter engine and say all is fine ,but still problem persists ,any ideas please.
Is the engine running on all 4 cyls or is it running on 2, When the engine was rebuilt did the mechanic check the cyls for out of round or taper, did you take the engine back to the re builder and go with him to the lake and have the show you the engine preformed properly or did they just blow you off, they as the repairs of the engine have a responsibility to make it run or take them to court.
I have the same exact motor and similar prob. It was sluggish, died alot, idle sucked big time, drank gas, and poor preformance overall. The repairman this week replaced my switch plate for $298 plus $ 215.00 labor. He said it was running on 2 cyls instead of 4. I am going to take it out this weekend hopefully and see the improvement. It better be for $513 bucks! It was going about 30 mph with 2 people in my 15'3 skeeter. I'll keep ya posted
