Default 2002 Yamaha 4-stroke 115hp

A week ago one of my 115's randomly shut-off on my while running about 45oo rpm's. After trying to restart it twice it fired up and I went home. I thought it may have been my fuel pump so I replaced it with a new one. Then yesterday while out on the boat the same thing happened. This time it fired right up. Both times it never showed any sign of struggling for gas. The fuel pump ideas was my self trouble-shooting. Does anyone know why just one of my engines qould randomly shut-off?

I have a 2001 Mercury 115 four stroke(Yamaha Powerhead) that was doing the same thing two years ago. Started happening in June and didn't figure it out until November. Ended up being a "defective main relay".
Under warranty, the dealer did a lot of parts swapping, cleaned my injectors twice, cleaned internal filters, new injector pump, blamed it on my fuel system set-up. blah, blah.
The problem never showed up on any of the diagnostic equipment that my mechanic had. It would cut out only at certain temperatures(as the motor was getting warm) but once it got fully warmed up, problem would go away until it went through that certain temperature range again.
Expect this problem to become more frequent but at least it restarts pretty easily(doesn't it?).
Keep this post in mind and try this if all else fails.
And one more thing, this relay won't cost too much compared to other parts you may be replacing.
Hope this helps,

Scott

Check your gas I had the same thing happen on a Suzuki and the dealer said that gas was only good for 3 months altho my gas was less that 1 month old
