I have a 98 1750 capri. I think the gas tank is filled with sludge or old gas or a ton of water. Is there a way to pull that thing out without removing the engine or clean it while it is installed in the boat?

You can get a manual siphon pump at walmart or buy a 12volt 'oil' siphon made to go down a dipstick.

First flush some karosene down there and drive around some bumpy roads w/o gear in the boat.

Hey I'm a boat newb and I got a 21' 1990 bayliner cuddy capri with a 1997 115HP mercury engine and I have the same problem as the other guy above.. but I've decided that the gas tank inside the boat maybe shot to SH*% so i was gonna replace the aluminum or whatever type of metal the tank is with a plastic one myself... so i guess my question is.. is it worth doing? and if I do do it how big of a job is it really gonna be.. i got about 15gal. of gas sitting in my tank right now.. i was gonna hand pump it out.. or now reading this post buy a pump. the reason for getting rid of the tank also is because the gas and the ethanol is separating i tried to use stabilizers n stuff to bring it together but that didnt work. ive used all different types of filters n i think theres water in the tank ... the cond. of the tank is unknown since i got the boat used and i dont think the guy took care of it that great.. considering the old engine on it was broken and he covered that up by forgetting to mention it..well any help would be awesome thanks

You can remove a lot of water in your fuel tank by siphoning it out. Gas is lighter than water and will float on top. Remove your sending unit from the tank, raise your bow so the fuel / water will flow to the back. Stick a hose down into the tank and siphon it out. Now, if you keep the hose as far in the tank as possible and you do have water contamination it will be the first to get sucked out. This is not the sharpest idea in the universe but using a clear gallon jug ( yea, glass ) you'll be able to see the water settling on the bottom of the jug. When no more water is coming out then you've done your job.
Needless to say, don't be a Darwin candidate and smoke.
There's a lot of other things to consider when doing this but common sense should kick in.

LMAO.. thanks GCboat yeah I'm pretty sure smoking would be a bad idea..but I figure it would be easier to spend 10$ a gal. to have some one just pump the damn tank out..but theres still the problem of removing the tank out the boat i dont know if i wanna tackle this myself or see how much it is..if anything me and like 2 of my friends said they would help..all 3 of us have a 0 knowledge of tank removal but im sure with plenty of reading and google searches im sure i can build up some sort of knowledge as of now sounds like a pain in the *****.. Thanks for your help..and for anyone else who has some sort of knowledge to share.
