25 HP Mercury will not start

Had problems with this motor not starting. Sit for a day then ok. Now, totally dead. No spark. My dealer told me it could be the stator, the trigger or the switchbox. He doubts whether it is the coil because it is rare that both of them would fail. The serial number of this motor is 0G044669, it should be a 1993 model. I prefer to fix this myself since this motor is on a pontoon boat and difficult to bring to the dealer.
I hate to purchase a switchbox and find that does not fix the problem.

get a multimeter and test voltage output. the first thing i would check is output from the cdi box into the coil. if nothing there. check output from the capacitor charge coil under the flywheel. if nothing there you will probably need to start with a new stator assembly
