Merc 500 trim tab adjustment question

Dummy question here....

I replaced the impeller in my old 4 cyl Merc 50 the other day. This was the first time I'd ever worked on a Mercury so I didn't know to pay attention to where the little trim tab was set before removing the bottom end. When I put it all back together I just pointed it straight and now under speed the steering pulls to the right.
Any estimates for how many notches I might need to move it to start out with and also in which direction?

Thanks in advance.

I tried using the search feature first, but all I got back were "tilt and trim" hits. I guess I didn't know the right keywords to use, sorry.

Re: Merc 500 trim tab adjustment question

I'd say how much depends on how hard it pulls. If it pulls real hard go all the way over....assuming your engine has fixed notches. If it doesn't then about 30 degrees from centerline.

Direction is direction of pull . Since it pulls right, set the rear of the tab as far starboard (right) as it will go....you can always move it back if you went too far.
