The gearcases will not interchange. The 79 is longer, front to back and has a different bolt pattern (spacing).

So which model, year , brand, would the parts fit on my motor ? 85TL79

I know those will be alright 85XTL79,85ML79, in the 100,115,140 hp range, 1979

V4 lowers from 1979 & newer will bolt right up.

Lowers from a 1977 20" 140 and all from 1978 will work but you'll need to use the linkage from that year and do a bit of adapting on your manifold.

I'm not really looking for a foot but mostly for parts like heads, carb, hood.
My engine is running good , but there's so many missing bolts, rusted bolts, the lower cowl cover is, on one side too wide, spent its life in a salt water environment . Bought the boat in July, did a water test 2 weeks ago for 2 days and it ran like a champ. Something is bound to go caput

Try to stay with 1979 & newer if you're looking for a donor motor or backup parts.
