wiring a starter switch

i ve got a 1978 mercury 20hp and i dont have the wiring diagram and i want to hard wire a push button starter switch. do i need to run my pos and neg from the battery to the coil and then to the block and then run a wire from the coil to the switch on one side and then to the starter? or am i a little off a little bit.

All you need is 12V to the push button on one side then a wire to the starter solenoid from the other side of the push button.
