I went to put engine up at my mooring and I noticed that it was moving very slowly and eventually wouldn't move at all. I then noticed a kind of oil slick on the water. The sound is the same but it just doesn't move (either up or down). It is in the up position right now, is there a way to put it down (in order to pull it) and then put it back up manually (so that I can triler it to a mechanic)?

There is a manual release valve on the starboard side of the motor. It will have a snap ring on it. That will lower the motor, getting it back up will be no problem, just secure it with a piece of wood. You may not need a mechanic. I think you are probably low on oil from a possible leak. Check that manual release valve first to make sure it is tight. Open the resevoir and see if it needs to be topped up (Im sure it does) That will help you until you find the source of the leak. If not the manual release valve, check the oil lines and connections. Let us know what you find.
