Just bought a 1989 4 hp Johnson, it came with the owners manual which indicates a 100 to 1 fuel oil ratio.
I have read in other posts that some much newer but similar hp motors run at 50 to 1.
If this is correct, I cant help but wonder if the manufacturer discovered at some point that 100 to 1 wasn't adequate??
Every outboard I have ever owned ran 50 to 1 and I am considering running this one at 50 to 1 as well just for piece of mind.
Am I just being paranoid?

Forget the 100:1 ratio, stick with the 50:1. OMC recinded the leaner mix.

if the motor still has the 100:1 sticker on it, remove it.
