Angry 125hp mercury 2 cycle 4 cylinder rpm problems

Today as i was going fishing my merc outboard would not run above 2700 rpm's while under power. In fast idle i can hit 4000 rpm's easily(did not want to go higher while not under way). Two days ago while fishing, i had no problems! This motor is "on-demand" cylinder displacement, will run on two cylinders at low speed and run on 4 cylinders at higher rpm's. Any sugestions or comments. Thanks.

It sounds like you need to ck for spark on all cyls, it could be a stator failure on one side or a trigger failure be sure to keep track of whitch ones are firing. if it fires on all 4cyl. then it may have lost a high speed winding in the stator and we can furnish you with tests if you need them

thanks for the reply, however, i am totally lost by the terminology in your reply. The spark should not be a big problem to check, but the other things have me baffled.
