I have a 2005 6 HP 4 stroke Mercury that sputters and dies after 10 seconds at WOT. Checked gas for water or clogged filters - all was fine. Engine will immediately restart and will run at idle speed or half throddle. Any suggestions as to what I should try next?

Try squeezing the primer bulb continiously when at W.O.T. and see if the motor keeps running. If so you have at least narrowed it down to a fuel delivery problem.

Thanks for your suggestion. Had plenty of fuel, not enough spark. Spark plug had a gap of .045??????????? Also had a hairy line crack in the insulator around the electrode. New properly gapped plug remedied the problem. Thanks
