Would you say a 2007 150 yamaha 2 stroke is more bulletproof than the 4 stroke?

Let me rephrase that. Which one would last longer if taken care of.Which one would be more reliable in the long run?

Seeing that some older 2 strokes are bullet proof...

My uncle has a Boston Whaler 17' with an 85 Johnson/Force with all original parts 30 years old

The carbie 150 is a very, very reliable engine.

I've driven one with 4000 hours and it showed no signs of ill health. I've owned two myself.

The main things with these are the fuel pump diapraghms ($36 per fuel pump by two to replace) and blocked carbie jets.

Either can cause a powerhead failure due to lean running.

I'm sure there are plenty of lack of maintenance things that can kill a four stroke too. But those are the two real ones with the 150 yam carb.

The fuel pumps can be checked by loosening the pumps from the block and pumping the fuel bulb. If they leak out the hole that goes into the crank case, they need replacing.

Blocked carbies cause rough running, they should be cleaned every now and again, especially after sitting for months on end after the fuel has evaporated.

GREAT motors.
