I guess I am not as young as I used to be cause my 40 hp motor on my 17' Tracker is getting heaver and heaver. A friend said I should invest in a CMC PT-130 but dog gone that thing is sure expensive. Are they worth the cost?

Thanks Mark

Have you considered one of these Motor Tilters?

The CMC's work very well and do exactly what they adverstise.

However, you need to consider a couple things.

-Because of the 6" set back, you may need to change your steering cable.

-It adds 6", so storage may be an issue.

The CMC's can be found on ebay (used) for a little less. Sometimes you can pick up a genuine OMC 'TNT' unit, in good working order, for about the same price. If your engine hasn't been used in salt water, installing them is not too bad. Plus, the steering cable remains untouched.

BTW, iboats has the best prices on new CMC's that I've seen.

Rick - Thought about one of these units but about half the time I am lifting the motor I am behind the boat removing or attaching the motor transport brace thus the reason for the CMC.

1730V - Thanks for the comments related to the TNT unit. I did not realize there was another brand that could save me possibly having to change the steering cable. I will watch out for that type unit in a good used vesrion.

Tashasdaddy - How have you been my consulant and iboat friend from my last Johnson motor issue. Motor is a 92 model Johnson Tracker 40 hp. Still running great since our last discussion. Gonna have to look up what a garelick lifter unit is. Would it prevent me from having to change out my steering cable?

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to share ideas.

sigar,

The OMC unit would be original equipment and it fits between the clamp bracket. Most have trim and tilt.

You may have a PM soon.

the garelick lifter is the only pictured. and in the 1st link. on my 93 40 i have tilt assist, it helps but not like a CMC. the 92 would be worth the expense. if it were a 1970, i would have said get a newer motor with it.

I have an 89 17' tracker with a 40 hp . I found a used original TNT on ebay and it was a snap to install. No changing of cables. This was a better choice for me.
