I have an 84 sea sprite with a 470 mercruiser engine. The boat leaks water near the bottom of the engine against the transom. Another boater said it was probably the bellows. How can I determine if it is the bellows? Also, is it easy for a do it yourselfer to repair? If, yes, where can I get info on how to repair it?

Thanks

Re: Don

Easiest way it to pull the drive and check for water in the boot.

...The boat leaks water near the bottom of the engine against the transom...

Do you mean where the exhaust tube connects to the inner transom plate?

If so, it is most likely corroded or cracked and will need replaced. If so, this is a pretty big job, the engine will need to come out for access, which means the drive also comes off.

If you could post a picture showing exactly where the leak is, we might be able to help a little better.
