Hello
I am new here and new to boating
I bought a 1978 tidecraft with a 1969 evinrude 40 hp
first of all i got it from ebay....don't laugh...lol
560.00 for boat, motor and a nice trailer
what ya think a good deal or not?
and whats the best way to see if it is charging?
seems to run fine.
changed the impeller and all that good stuff already.

A 1969 40hp won't charge unless it has a generator. The electric shift models had generators as standard equipment. On manual shift models, the generator was an optional accessory. Either one should have an ammeter to show the charge.

Look at your motor. The electric starter is on one side. If it has a generator, it is on the opposite side and looks similar to the starter except it is belt driven off the flywheel.

I'm sorry yes it does have electric shift
and yes it does have a generator
it does not have a working ammeter
