'69 9.5hp Seahorse - Waterpump working?

I was recently given this engine and was wondering, how do I tell if the waterpump is working? Other motors have the pee-hole to see if the waterpump is putting out water, but this motor doesn't seem to have that.

So, a) can I put my gardenhose/bunny ears on this and b) how do I tell if the pump is working?

Muffs won't work. There will be water spraying out the back if it's pumping.

Willy,

Thanks for the info. So it'll spray out the rubber exhaust hole at the back of the engine cowling?

Also, since I can't run it with the muffs/garden hose on it, what would be the best way to get the saltwater out of it after each ocean usage? BTW, this motor will be my kicker on my 17' Larson Volero.

Garbage can, or rubbermaid tub is your best bet for flushing that motor.

Thanks all. I ran it in a tub of water and I saw that it spews water out the exhaust port properly, and the tub would also be the way to flush it of saltwater.

I dumped the bottom end oil (pretty gunky), flushed that out and replaced with new oil. I should be good to go. In amazingly fine shape for a '69!
