I am trying to find a 2bbl manifold for my 96-00 truck 305 vortec heads.
Only 2bbl manifold I could find was the Victor Jr. Vortec but it makes power way too high up in the rpms.
Mercruiser must have used one didn't they?
I have seen 350 mercruisers with 2bbls so I don't want to purchase a 4 bbl for my 305. I don't really need more power, I just want better efficiency/economy.
If I use an adapter plate so say a performer intake could accept my 2bbl, what should I be aware of?

Re: Vortec manifold.

Thanks.
I sent them an email.
Some where I read that there were 3 or 4 choices.
I have managed to find part# 860100A 1, but it lists for $ 400
Anyone have a marine wrecker close by?

I'm in North Van, just a thought but I read that 4 bbl carbs are more fuel efficient then 2 barrels because the main barrels are smaller, it's just when you punch the throttle that it can suck the fuel. Just my cdn 2 cents

Re: Vortec manifold.

Looking around I don't believe Mercruiser and probably also Chevy ever made a cast iron 2 Vortec manifold. Your best and cheapest bet is a aftermarket dual plane aluminum square bore manifold and adapter.
Aftermarket cast iron vortec manidolds are available but they ain't cheap.

This is from the above web site.

5. What is the best cast iron intake to run on Vortec heads?

The best intake is our Marine High-Rise intake, both 2 and 4 barrel styles are available. These intakes are not manufactured by Chevrolet.

Chevrolet makes a “Pancake” 4 barrel Q-Jet intake, part# 14097499. This intake was designed for a low rpm engine used on generators. The performance of this intake will be 15 to 20 horsepower below a standard Q-Jet intake. For this reason, we do not recommend the “Pancake” intake.

Re: Vortec manifold.

4 barrels are for effiecency... not so much for power....
....
now quads (dual 2's) or 6 packs (trip 2's) are where the real power is..... (but not economy)
orrrr... fuel infection.
