Hi all, is there any way to find out what a boat's original name was? I recently purchased an old grady white with no name on her and wondered if I could find out what her name is.

Re: Boat name

Doug,

If you have access to someone in law enforcement who is willing to run the VIN through the registry computer, you may be able to locate the previous owner/owners and ask them if they had named the boat Be aware that many agencies/officers may not be willing to give you the info. directly due to privacy issues. Good luck!

You can also go through the tax agencies to find out. :) It's public record. When I say tax agencies I mean the county tax office. Not H&R Block. :D That's how I found out if the guy that sold me my boat was telling the truth about him being the sole owner of the boat. I also found out that he didn't pay taxes on the boat for 2 years which meant he didn't use the boat. I verified this after he told me he was overseas on active duty, and had it in storage.

Actually, I thought that she might not have gotten a name but wanted to know. My wife wants to name her but I said no unless I could find out for sure.

Re: Boat name

That seems a bit silly. It would be hard to find out. Why not name it whatever you want to? Naming a boat is part of the initial fun of getting one to me...

What are you going to do if you find out her original name was something weird, like "Porn Queen"? Listening to that "bow chicka bow ow" music over and over would get old quick...;)
