Installing seals in lower end cap - which way to they face? 1985 75HP

Which way do the two seals face in the lower end cap? The Clymer manual states that the spring and lip of the lower seal should face the lower unit, and the spring and lip of the upper seal should face the block. Is this correct?

Arr, Mate-y, toss that Clymer's to Davy Jones' Locker!! More Bum Dope from those Jokers!!!

Both seals are installed with the lips facing downwards. Be sure to position the seals in the same approximate place the old ones were and don't block off any oiling holes which may be in the area of the cap in-between the seals.
