transom corosion at gimbell carrier

hi i have a mr transom housing on my boat that has a lot of corosion at the gimbell bearing carrier the lower part is all most gone up to the groove where the bellows fits . was wondering if anyone makes a stainless or alloy insert to go over the carrier so a bellows can be tightend up and sealed or do they have to be rebuilt by welding your imput would be great

If it's that corroded, the gimbal bearing is probably going to be loose in the housing also. I would normally say get a new or used transom shield. But there are some out there that have tried THIS.

Don - I'm curious if you have used that product yourself? I had a similiar issue with the my boat - I ended up buying a good used complete transom assembly. I couldn't see paying that kind of money for what seems to be nothing more than a plastic sleeve that is epoxied onto the existing housing. Have you used them with success? Just curious.
