I have a fuel problem with my 40 HP outboard. When I give it throttle it runs for about 100 yards and then it stalls. The bulb on the fuel line from the tank to the engine is soft. I have replaced the bulb and lines, the fittings, the inline fuel filter, and the gas tank. I have checked as best I can for air leaks using an air compressor. After doing all of this it ran twice around the lake and I thought I had it solved until I throttled back to land it and it stalled. Back to square one. Now I have ordered a fuel pump kit. Is there anything I am missing?

When the motor is running the bulb won't be hard but it shouldn't colapse.
Sometimes you can squeeze the primer bulb to keep it running if the pump is bad.If this helps replace the pump it appears you have done about everything else in the fuel system.

Thanks for your reply. It looks like the fuel pump is the next logical place to go before the carberator.

Re: 95' Force 40 HP

Rebuilding the fuel pump was a fairly easy job. I rebuilt mine this spring for the first time on a 99 Force 40 HP. I had never done it before so i was a little intimidated. Just get a good service manual for the motor and you should be set!

Good luck!
