I've got an 1985 2 hp Evinrude motor for my porta-bote. I rebuilt the carb. and noticed leaking fuel last time I tried to start it. This makes me think the float is not adjusted correctly or the needle isn't seating properly. The manual said to use a particular tool to set the float height with the top inverted. i haven't the tool and the new float was parallel with the casting so I put things together. I've seen spec books say to set it up this way for other carbs. so I gave it a try. It doesn't seem to work. Can anyone advise me on setting the float on this simple carb? Thanks:)

Re: Evinrude 2 hp carb. adjustment

did you install a new float with the carb rebuild? It is possible the float will no longer float and it not shutting the fuel off. The setting you describe is the way I always do them. One way to tell is if you turn the carb upside down and try to blow air though the gas inlet it should not let you. If it does then the needle valve is not seating. It won't tell you if the float is sinking though.

I did install a new float. I'll check it to make sure it is not upside down.
