Default 1973 evinrude 18 hp carb rebuild

I started the carb rebuild on this motor, and I already have run into a snag. I can't seem to get the old needle valve seat off. it is on really tight and I am starting to chew it up a bit. Has anyone run in to this problem, any suggestions?

Yes, they can be snug but they do come off. Also they're quite soft which also can be an issue. Try small vice grips as you are replacing it so it does not matter if it gets a tad beat up, as long as you get it out. You are replacing it, right?

Yea I was planning on replacing it. I think i have to now cause it is all chewed up. I'll try the vice grips. I have rebuilt a couple of carbs, never had this problem.

I had to walk away from it for a few hours, because the curse words were really starting to fly. I ended up putting it in a vice and tapped it with a screwdriver and a hammer at the right angle and it came off. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. Hopefully no more hang ups but I will be sure to let you know if there are.
