by useing you engine serial # how do you find out what year your engine is. I went to mercury site and could not find it there. I want to make sure I have a 88 Because im noticing some mercury part #'s are different on my boatfrom the merc site..serial #B740551. even the new updated (cross reference) is not matching up to some parts from the merc site.

Thanks again

Re: what year is my engine?

The best thing to do is go to Mercs parts express at http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/PartsExpress/HomePage/homepage.asp use your SN and find the part you want. Since Merc goes by SN's for parts and changes are done by SN breaks, NOT year, you will then know what the correct PN is for the part you are looking fo. Now, if you want aftermarket parts, you have a pn that the aftermarket crosses to.

PS: You have an 87 engine with that SN.

if its a 87 engine is it still possible to be the original engine on a 88 boat?

is the 87 the build year or model year.

Thanks
