I believe this engine has a temperature sensor on one of the heads with a brown wire. I would like to hook it up to make it functional. Does it complete an electrical circuit by connecting to ground when the sensor triggers? I have a temp horn from a Sea-Doo. Can I install that instead of a light that I likely won't see?

I believe it does complete the ground when it overheats. You should be able to hook the ground of your horn to the sensor wire and the hot wire to a good 12v source and if it over heats the horn should go off.

If I recall there should be a brown wire in the harness going to the key switch that runs back to the sensor. I would need to look in my manual to be sure

There's no sense having it hooked up if the sensor is defective. Is there any way to test the sensor?

Not without removing it and putting it in hot water. You have to remove the water cover plate to get it out. So, ok let's suppose you do all that and it works. Does that mean it will work NEXT time? I find that they are very unreliable. In fact I have rebuilt dozens of powerheads that cooked before the horn ever went off. Your best insurance is to make sure you have a good fresh unworn water pump and then turn your attention to something more enjoyable.

Maybe I should get the generator belt instead so that it charges the battery since I fried my battery charger bench testing the starter. At least I don't have any "problems" with this boat and motor. You can probably tell I'm never satisfied just sitting around. I want to find something to do. I guess that's why I don't fish. Too much sittin' Hmmm, there's my 40hp sitting in the garage with the flywheel still stuck to the crank shaft. I'll go see if I can get that bugger off.
