Teleflex Tach question

I have a Teleflex tach, and I was wanting to make sure the guage was set right on the back of the unit. I have a '94 Vindicator 200 Model # E200STLERK. My local shop mechanic said it 'should' be set on one of the 6s, but he didn't know which. There is '3p/6c' and a '6p' all by itself. If I turn it to the '6p' it tachs out past 8k rpms and buries the needle. Although the '3p/6c' setting seems to be more realistic. Can anyone verify this since my shop mechanic isn't familiar with this brand?

Re: Teleflex Tach question

I just double checked and 6P is correct. Is you charging circuit working properly? Is this a new tach? Sometimes those little arrows on the selector is hard to see. At lest for me they are. Be sure the arrow is pointing to 6P.

Re: Teleflex Tach question

I assume my charging circuit is working properly. If it isn't will it cause the tach to read wrong? If I put it on '6P' it buries the needle past 8000 RPMs at WOT. Also, I never have a problem with drained batteries. They always charge right up after 2500 RPMs. Is that my charging circuit? Also, I just assumed that the side of the dial with the slot for the screw driver was the arrow. Is it not? I had it turned so the slot for the screwdriver came in contact with the 6P.

Re: Teleflex Tach question

That slot where you put the screwdriver has an arrow at one end. Thats the one I have trouble seeing sometimes. And yes a defective charging circuit can affect the tach readings. Tachs work off AC pulses from the stator. Since these same pulses feed the rectifier its a convientent place to make the connection.
