Ive got a 89 bayliner with a 5.0 in it but it doesnt have a trim guage. Is there one I could put on it maybe some sort of universal kit? thanks

Wow is this timely. I just bought an 'original' trim gauge for my 90' capri and I am trying to find out the same info.
I'd like to find out what it connects to and how it works exactly. Does it need a trim/tilt unit to function? My motor is a Force 90hp outboard. Does it need some sort of back transom gizmo? or distance sending unit thingy?
Questions I guess that are valid for both of us I suppose.
Regardless, if I find out how this thing is supposed to work I'll forward/post the info Buttz.

I dont have much information either. I have an 89 1952 capri with a 5.0 HO engine. I was told by the the guy that did some outdrive work for me that he thought the wiring for a trim gauge was already part of the 5.0 harness. Thats as far as Ive taken it. but Id love more info on installing a trim gauge. I did install a set of smart tabs and i couldnt be happier with that investment

What about outboards? (Force outboards particularly)...and do they need to have tilt & trim?
I need to find some info on how trim gauges work....hmmmmm.

On your OMC units the trim sender is located on the stbd. side of the leg. Little round, plastic gizmo. Turn your wheel hard over to port and you should be able to see it. Now, look on the inside of your boat at the drive unit itself. Right below the steering link there will be a wire coming out of there - that is your wire for the actual sender. Now all you need to do is find the appropriate adaptor and install your dash unit and you should be good to go. HOWEVER - this is on my 1989 OMC leg, yours might be different but I don't think it will be. I guess one size fits all. Calibrating it is another situation. Directions should come with the gauge you buy.

Bigprairie1 - I'm not at all familiar with those Force outboards - sorry.
