HELP...Gremlins in the water system!!!

We recently purchased a 1980 Carver Voyager. Suffered unexpected freezing damage in the freshwater system. We have replaced the pump, filter, and faucets in head and galley. We cannot find any leaks in the system, except for the gremlin. When we turn on the pump to charge the system it runs right to where it should shut off and then the water heater (which is not on) lets out a couple of shots from the pressure relief valve and it goes back to filling up the system again. We replaced the relief valve as it originally was leaking when we installed new pump. We have been told by several people that the pump will not put out enough pressure to open the 75psi relief valve. The pump is a PAR Max 3. The system has an accumulator tank, it is not leaking, but could it be waterlogged? We were also told that the relief valve was not seating and to open it up then close it again.....that didn't help!! If anyone has any ideas, we'd sure appreciate the input.

Re: HELP...Gremlins in the water system!!!

Your accumulator tank should have zero water in it. It is there to keep the faucets running smoothly instead of the surge with the pump. Check it first, they are really inexpensive to replace and you don't need to purchase one that has the highly priced 'marine' moniker on it. Seals, lines, gaskets. etc. will all give way after a certain amount of time. If the pump setting is too high that would also be a source of impending doom. Check your limiter switch, could be stuck. Had the same problem with my system until I realized it didn't like water, so I filled it with beer and no problems since. :D:D:D:D JK
