I have a 1996 40 hp mercury 4cl . One day it ran fine and two weeks later it wasnt getting any gas to the plugs. I rebuilt the carbs and fuel pump, replaced the tank, filter, line and bulb. Still no fuel is getting to the plugs. I dont know what to do next. Any suggestions would be a big help. Thanks

Re: 40 HP fuel problems

If it's getting fuel into the carb bowls it should start on the fuel from the primer if there is no fuel in the bowls then you have a problem with the inlet needles (float height or stuck needles) if there is no fuel in the carbs the problem is in the engine plug or fuel line can you feel the bulb get hard when pumping it

The fuel bulb is pumping up fine and my carb bowls are getting gas. The plugs are dry.

Re: 40 HP fuel problems

The choke solenoid was clogged with small pieces of vaccum line the previos owner used as fuel line from the carb to the choke, cleaned the solenoid, replaced the fuel line and it fired right up and ran great, Thanks for the help.
