Re: engine wont lift
just bought a 1987 mercruiser (first boat). i replaced the hydraulic hose because it was leaking. i refilled the air compressor with oil. i cant get the engine to lift all the way. it gets about a quarter of the way up and stops. any help will be greatly appreciated.
First of all, what drive do you have? Mercruiser has several different engine and drive combinations. The model of each would help.
They also don't have air compressors, electric motor driven trim pumps raise the outdrive (not the engine) up for trailering and shallow water operation.
There is also a trim limit switch on the outdrive that prevents the drive from being raised too far when running. There is also a trailer button on the control, or a seperate bypass button to allow raising the drive all the way.
