i am running ul77v surface gap plugs .
iwas told by mech .he has been arund 20 years.
that aweak ign. takes more voltage to fire surface gap
and that i could swap to ql 77jc4 and gap at 35 and it would help with idle and was better .for all around use and that the surface gap plugs tend to want to run rich due to a worn ign.
i am firing on all cyls 7\16 inch .
also do you know if they make a upgrded coil and wire.
for this eng.would like to use good perf coils when i change stator and timer base.
sorry for long post on spark plug question
check back post but didnt git info on this
thanks a million.

benny 1963[not sure if this is how you bump a post up but here goes
What year is your motor?? I am not aware of any "upgraded" coil other than that the newer ones can be swapped for either port or starboard side by flipping them, but i feel thats not the answer you are looking for. Dhadley is the man you want to talk to about performance upgrades.
thanks was wanting to know if ql77jc4 were a better option
if i had aweak ign instead of ul77v since i heard they were alittle better on the idle .
thanks benny1963
Im by no means a plug expert, but I know that on ALL VRO/OMS equipped motors the "QL" supressor plug is recommended. Your motor does call for the UL77V like you said, or the L16V surface gap plug. I am curious too as to what others think on this matter.
All the motors I work on are on fishing boats that run at various speeds for various times and I put QL77JC4's gapped at .030-.032 in every crossflow, 4's and 6's. Never had a problem or sparkplug complaint.
thanks walker. i heard they ran better at lower speeds and they fired better atlower speeds if you had a weak elec system,
im going to try them
