Just replace my motor in my 1988 SeaRay. Put in water and can't seem to shift out of gear. I can shift from neutral to drive but than much difficulty in taking out of gear. I can also shift from neutral to reverse but again much difficulty in going back to neutral.

Any one have any ideas. On land it seemed to shift in and out of gear without any problem.

Re: Shift Cable Problem

Your shift interrupt switch is not functioning for some reason....
Either your lower cable is bad & should be replaced or ya did something to the switch.....
It will go in & out of gear with no load on it, like you are doing on land, it is load that actuates the switch....
Disconnect the shift cable & see if the switch is stuck at all....
If it seems to function (move ) normally, then I would say that you damaged the cable somehow.....
There is a link in the FAQ's by Achris on how the switch works, & here is a link for your drive....
