Checking the stator

Hi all,

I've got the flywheel off my 1991 Force 70 and I'm convinced the stator is no good - it has a lot of varnishy deposits and as I understand it that means "throw it away and get a new one".

But just to be sure...

I've checked the resistance between the red and black wires and got 118 ohm which I believe is correct (between 90 and 140 according to my book), but when I check the resistance between the red and blue wires, I get infinity/open. The book says it should be 3600-4200 ohm.

So before I dig deep and buy a new stator, can I have a second opinion?

Cheers,

B.

Re: Checking the stator

Infinity sure sounds like open... if you are confident of your measurements, and you took them at the stator's output wires, not at an intermediate point, you should consider getting a new stator.

Re: Checking the stator

Thanks Quadmaniac,

Yes, the stator is scrap - as is the rectifier. Perhaps a fault in one ruined the other.

Oh well - looks like i'll have to dig even deeper into my wallet! :(
