mid 80's 115 trim tilt problem

My friend has a 6 cyl.115 merc outboard its an 1986 or 87.The problem is the motor will tilt all the way down but not back all the way up. We dont see any leaks. Can anyone help. Also Hi, new to this site.

It was a little low on oil we topped it off with no change.Is there a way to bleed the sytem or something else we can check.

Which system do you have with cyls. on the outside of the transom bracket or the inside

The bleeding process for the engine is with the motor tilted all the way up, fill the system and run thru 4 or 5 full tilt cycles then tilt all the way up and refill, do the process till bleed. If that don't fix it you have 1 of 3 problems,
1. tilt ram has a ball not seated(dirt or bad seat)
2. bad o-ring on the tilt ram
3. the pump is defective
