Default Mercury 500, Fit a Kill Switch

Hello.

I have just bought an old Mercury 500 (50HP). I took it out for its first spin a few days ago and when I tried to stop the outboard I found that there was no kill switch!

I have bought a kill switch but cannot work out how to fit it. The engine only has a pull start and the electronics are very simple. I would have thought that I need to just earth a certain connector on the switch box.

If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.

Thanks
Ben.

Actually I know it's a thunderbolt ignition, but other than that I don't know.

Post a serial number or if the engine has 4 coils its ADI ign and if it has 1 coil is a Thunderbolt Driver Ign. if it has no external coil it's magneto ign.

Hello again

The serial number is 9249580 which doesn't seem to appear in any catalogues for some reason.

I can't see any external coils so maybe it's a magneto. I also have a Merc 110 which has two external orange coils and I can't see anything like that on this engine.

Thats a dia. for Driver ign. to hook up the kill switch attach one wire to the orange terminal of the switch box (your dia.shows yellow) and the other wire goes to ground
