Default 1972 Evinrude 25 fuel problem

I have a problem with my 72 Rude 25hp sportster. I thought I had it figured out over a year ago but apparently I am mistaken.

It has a fuel leak and it appears to be coming from the throat of the carb. I've ruled out all other places, fuel pump has been rebuilt, all hoses are new/replaced, engine gaskets are new, etc. I haven't rebuilt the carb yet (And I know I should, and I am going to asap) but I'm wondering if there is something in the carb that would allow fuel to blow back out the throat? I've also replaced the reeds to rule those out as well.

Input appreciated!

why would you do so much other work before rebuilding the carbs?

Sounds like the carb rebuild is next as the float needle isn't sealing and allowing the fuel to flood the carb....

Float operation is correct. I've replaced the carb with another and when I did I went ahead and put a needle and seat into it.

if you have done all that, i would say the float needs to be adjusted,

Yeah. I'll adjust the float tonight. Im assuming that the appropriate adjustment is as J. Reeves suggests, and the opposite side of the hinge should be slightly higher than the hinged side.

when turn upside down, should be inline with the carb body, or the free side a little higher. so are extremely touchy.. i've had several i've had to adjust 2 or 3 times to get right. attach a hose to the inlet and blow with it upside down, no blow good, leak no good.
