Default evinrude point setting

can some one tell me what the point setting is for a 1969 evinrude triumph 55 hp....thanks

I believe you will find the point setting stamped on top of the flywheel. Look for something that says "point setting xxx".

There is a better, more accurate way to do it.

Unplug the points wires from the amplifier and connect an ohmmeter to points wire and timer base. With one set of points on the high side of cam, put a piece of paper between the other set. Turn the adjusting screw on points that are on high side of cam clockwise until they make contact (zero ohms), then turn counterclockwise until they just do break (high ohms). Then continue to turn adjusting screw 6 more clicks (7 for new points). Repeat process with other point set. When finished, make sure there is no paper lint left between contacts.
