Shift problem

I have a 78 merc 302 w2ith an I drive. Last weekend I was out and noticed that when I shift into forward and push on the gas the motor revs up but the boat does not pickup speed. Reverse seems to run fine. Any thoughts? Checked both microswitches and they appear to be working fine.

you need to adjust your lower shift cable or possibly replace. common problem on an older boat. seloc manual will show you how or if you dont have one ask for a thread and someone will give you the merc online repair manual link.
