I have recently purchased a used boat. Has a 1996 Mercury Mariner Magnum 40 hp. Local guys are telling me to disconnect the oil injector and mix in the tank. What do you think. Also if I do disconnect the injector, can I route the oil from the pump back into the oil reservior so that it recycles the oil. This will keep the pump from drying out. And just plug up the port on the carb ? I believe this is the original motor for this boat. ( 1996 Ranger Cherokee 106, 16 ft aluminium all weld ) Every thing appears to be in real good shape. Motor idles good, runs good on the water. But several guys have had bad experience with oil injector going out and locking up there motor.

Re: Oil injector

In my opinion, if it works, don't fix it. Sure there have been some fail but there are thousands out there that haven't.
