I was wondering if any of you have had ths problem before or may be able to help.
I have a 1999 Evinrude 115. I was running full throttle when all of a sudden, the check engine light came on and the alarm sounded. The motor shut completely off. It did not go into the S.L.O.W mode at all. The motor will crank and start but only briefly. It will not stay running long enough to put it into gear. It just fires and shuts down again with the check engine light on. The fuel pump is activating and pressurrizing as I checked both. By the way, the motor was not hot at all and was running great. I also checked the fuses at the ECM and they all looked fine. Some have said that it sounds like a relay however I am not sure how you can check a relay on he ECM.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry I can't help you, do you have a manual?

Re: Wont stay running

The only manual that I have is the factory orginal manual which basically tells me that it is some sort of fuel restiction. After reading a lot of posts concerning this issue, it seems as though I should start with the fuel filter. It sure is acting like a fuel issue to me. Could be a water in the fuel? That is a far as I have gotten. I will be buying a actual motor manul off of ebay tommorow for sure.

Thanks for asking

The "check engine" light indicates a fuel restriction. Go from there...crimped fuel line, improper venting, fouled pick up, etc.

How about the water pump? Is there water coming out the exhaust or where ever your water exits?

Yes, the water was coming out nicely from the port between the exhaust ports. Steady stream. Pickups were completely clear. Temp light did not go off and the actual temp guage read normal medium temprature.
