Sage Rod & Reel...good deal?

.....ok guys I need some quick feedback. A guy I work with is selling a 9'/5wt. sage rod w/ a sage reel for $300.
The reel includes two spools all with line, backing, etc. One sinking and one floating. Also included is the aluminum Sage rod tube and a very nice leather reel pouch. Everything is there in ready to go condition...except the flies.
This guy is a bit of a hardcore fly fisherman and this stuff is in very good shape. He now makes his own rods...ties his own flies, etc and is cleaning house on his purchased stuff.
I am a novice Fly fisherman and recently had the end of my 9'(6wt.) fly rod snap off....after my wife stepped on it earlier in the day...so I'm due for an equipment upgrade anywhooo. (interestingly my wife is keen to contribute to this purchase...due to her incident with my fly rod...which she actually bought for me a few years ago)
I fish mostly for Trout on local lakes...no ocean stuff at this point...and nothing in the cards yet for Kokanee, etc.
What do you think....good deal? reasonable deal?....or pass?
